Howdy readers!
Today we took a ride with Alex, professional taxi driver/tour guide for 9 years. Alex was a bit younger than Nestor and said that he sees Nestor more of a father figure than a brother. They are not related but like some back home they call each other brother here when they are close friends.
It was a couple hour drive to a side of the road restaurant. The one we ate at actually looked like a restaurant and not a roadside shack. The fool was good, nothing exciting though.
After lunch Alex drove us to the St Herman’s Blue Hole National Park. https://www.sthermansbluehole.com/
We had a hike down to the cave about half a mile and that also meant we had a hike back up to the starting point. The cave is big and has a river running through it. They do tubing somewhere at the park but we did not do that so I am unsure where exactly.
We were allowed to go inside a couple hundred yards without a park guide, we took Alex with us. It was a neat cave but we did not see any bats or spiders. Emily did have a little rat snake go over her foot on the hike down. After we left the cave Emily took a side hike down another trail looking for another cave that was in the area. Alex and I went back up to the starting point.

Once Emily returned unscathed from her extra hike we went to the inland Blue Hole. It is not as large as the Blue Hole out in the ocean here. It’s actually not very big. It is a beautiful area though. We were glad that there wasn’t a lot of people there. This is the cooler time of year and temperatures run about 82 plus humidity. The water in the blue hole was 76 degrees. It was chilly. We lasted just over 20 minutes. I was glad we brought dry clothes.

Belize is a very pretty country and it is an easy place to travel to and get around. It is an English speaking country and they take U.S. dollars with a two for one exchange so Belize prices are half if you pay in U.S. dollars.
Sadly the water is cold in the ocean and pools in the winter and they get Sargassum in the summer. They do have other things to offer so that’s good. We are going to see about snorkeling/ diving tomorrow. I’m on the fence about diving, I may just go snorkeling with Emily. We have talked with a company about going with them and they have responded to our first email but we didn’t hear back about if they were picking us up in the morning or not. We are going to go down and be there if they show up, if not they did say when they leave and they go everyday so we can have the hotel take us down. It is looking like rain in Belize tomorrow but I don’t know if that will matter where we will go as it’s an hour boat ride from what I understand.
Here’s just some pictures I took from the van on the way back.

Be safe!
