Hello Kind Readers!! It’s been a while since Roatan. We have been here in Belize since Wednesday afternoon. We didn’t have any troubles with getting here, our flight out of STL wasn’t too early and our layover in DFW wasn’t overly long. There was a 2 hour drive to the hotel from the airport that was easy to get arranged at the airport. Overall long day as usual but it went smoothly.
We are staying in a very nice two bedroom “condo” that is most likely an investment property. Some of the accommodations here are just owned and the people live in them and some are vacation homes that are managed by the Resort/ Umaya https://www.umayaresortbelize.com/# it is a very nice place. I will complain about the lighting, especially in the kitchen. Tonight I took one of the bedside lamps and put it in the kitchen on top of the shelves and it helped a lot!
The property is situated between the ocean and a lagoon, we are on the lagoon side and have a very nice view. Emily has some pictures of that to share when she does a post.
There is one main road that goes past the resort. It dead ends in Placencia Village. There are a few restaurants and other resorts bicycling close or long walk but not a lot. Most of the things are about a 30 minute car ride to the village.
Belize doesn’t allow franchises or other outside businesses, so no McDonald’s or Walmarts, there is a Wendy’s but it’s not fast food.

We went there for lunch today, Emily had grilled fish that looked good and I had a burger with fries. This Wendy’s is not a place to go for a burger and fries. It wasn’t bad but the other food is probably better.
Yesterday and today we took the resort shuttle into the village. They go twice a day for free at ten and two and either time they will pick you up if you are there already. They also will do a run anytime for a fee.
Yesterday we went on the ten o’clock shuttle, walked around, had lunch and then got some groceries. We got a taxi back and met Nestor, his brother Alex will be taking us on a tour tomorrow.
The rest of the afternoon was spent swimming in the ocean and resort pool. The water is in the 80s but it feels colt. It’s basically the same as the air temperature here if you don’t count the heat index from the humidity. It may not be the best place for water activities. We do have a day lined up on Sunday to do some scuba and snorkeling. Depending upon how that goes we may do some more.
Today was almost the same as yesterday with a few differences. We rode bikes to a store for a few more groceries, stopped at a bakery then paid for a ride to the village for lunch and to look for coffee/tea cups. We didn’t end up with any cups. Our swimming was only in the pool today. There is a nice beach here, shallow for a fair distance out. It’s been breezy so the water is churned up with sediment so it wouldn’t be very clear. Yesterday the water was cloudy but we did see some Moon jellyfish and I seen a small ray. I also pick up a very small conch shell that turned out to still be inhabited, so it was returned to the water.
The village is interesting, there is a main road with some restaurants and shops but then there is a sidewalk that runs parallel to the road about a block in and it has places on both sides of it like the road.

Those are all the pictures I have so far.
I hope everyone is doing well!
