Boat update

So last fall I had taken the boat to be painted. It was a major fail. So it had to be redone. There was a lot of sanding to be done. The original color I had picked was a blue metallic but it did not get stirred well and all the metal flake was left in the can. It wasn’t thinned enough and it ran something terrible. I wish I had done it myself the way I did this time . It actually was easier than I expected and turned out well.

First I took the boat to have the motor tuned and the carbs cleaned. While it did run fairly well I was informed that the lower carb did not work at all. This was not a surprise. I had a feeling it was not doing much. In the end it has not worked since I have owned the motor, the mechanic said whoever worked on it last basically glued it together with gasket sealer. The mechanic also replaced what electrical parts that I didn’t and a couple I did. They are now covered by warranty.

I have not been able to test it out yet since all the local access has been closed to the water. I am considering doing a test run on a lake a bit further away. Maybe next week.

In the meantime I have repainted the boat. Or most of the boat. Some of the top still needs done. I was going to wait on the top until fall or next spring but we keep getting rain!

In addition to painting I have started on some of the upgrades. I have added a new ladder and a humminbird depth finder. It has gps speed, temperature and maps. I would have kept the original speedometer but it didn’t work properly.

I will be redoing all the wiring in the future to include a fuse box and updated switches for everything.

I added a foam marine flooring to the floor. I will recover the seats at some point. It turned out decent. There is a couple places where I had to use some scraps to finish but it still was pretty good.

Hopefully the rain will be more normal for a while and the lake here will open back up. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of power increase it got. It did fairly well last year pulling us on a tube.
