Adventure Days begin!

We chose not to rush into our adventures too early today, we didn’t actually schedule anything for today, we just waited until after breakfast to make a plan. We have a plan for the remaining time in the Arenal area now. We have rafting tomorrow, caving Thursday and we have a stop off at at waterfall on our way to Tamarindo.

Today we had a morning soak in our personal hot spring water pool. After we scheduled our excursions we went into La Fortuna. It’s mostly souvenir shops and restaurants. There is quite a mix of economic levels in the area. We walked around and found a soda (little restaurant mostly for the locals) to have some lunch. The food was good and the gal was nice but the cash register gal took me for an extra five since we hadn’t gotten any local currency yet and they must not get a lot of dollars.

After lunch we walked around a little more and hit the ATM for some Colones, got a taxi and went out to the Sloth Sanctuary. We saw a few sloths, sorta saw some howler monkeys, an otter, lizard and some leaf cutter ants. Our guide was knowledgeable and took a long time explaining things. The jungle was very humid but the place was really nice. I don’t think I would enjoy cutting the grass here though. The guy at the sloth sanctuary was using a machete. (The people doing the shoulder of the roads around this area use big weed whackers.)

After we got back we went swimming in one of the pools for a while and used up what energy I had left for the day. We went and had dinner and that helped revive me for a treat from the chocolate shop and a short soak in the hot spring water. It’s nice having our own we don’t have to share.

Hopefully everyone is doing well and enjoying our blog!
