Rainy Day in Jamaica

I had planned to write a post today, but it’s getting late and Bill has done a really good post for us, so I’ll leave it to him to tell you about our day. He also took some pictures so I’ll post those as well.

Even though I had a post already today, it’s pouring rain here now so I thought I would start a second post. The rain is supposed to be done by 2:15 or so. Besides I didn’t do a post last night, I was wore out! I woke up about 1:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep before the 3:30 wake up alarm.

We did some swimming in the ocean, the beach is nice and sandy but it’s not very deep or interesting to snorkel in. There is reef here but it’s out a ways. The guy that signed us up for the night snorkeling told me that there are some places we can get to by small catamarans that they will teach us how to use. We’re supposed to be doing that right now. Everyday at 9 and 1:30 they do instruction for a list of things. We may try as many as possible. I need to get his name, he is also the go-to guy for dealing down prices for the off site parasailing trip.

The nude beach is right next to the regular beach, there is a privacy fence but it stops a fair distance from the water and then there is a roped off section. It was not busy and not everyone was nude. It’s a little different to be swimming along and then look up out of the water to someone’s butt. It’s between mid thigh and waist deep along the outer roped area depending upon how tall you are. It’s kind of like being at work sometimes, you see a lot more nudity than you planned on. It is a good thing to be living life not caring about what others think. Adam and Eve started out naked until innocence was lost, maybe they are innocent? Or maybe they have just forgotten that clothes help protect things from the elements, the sun comes to mind and the fish swimming around.

Lunch was good, the snapper had a teriyaki sauce that was a bit powerful. I would have been happy with a full plate of the shrimp spring rolls.

It’s 20 to 5 and it’s been raining again for a while. Emily and I did get a short catamaran lesson on the beach by the go-to guy there whose name I need to get again. He’s very friendly and he said he had the parasailing guys at $100-110 but tomorrow only since they are off on the weekends for some reason. More people must come for the week and fly on weekends? I’m wondering what happened to the lower price he said earlier that may be more worth doing it for.

Emily and I sailed a catamaran for a while until they had to take the rescue boat out of the water. I think the rescue guy just wanted to go home early. Our go-to guy was all about us going out but when we came in closer to shore the other guy wanted us to come in and then they pulled the boat out. They had been getting ready to do that when we first came down and one of the guys told me there was no wind for it while the Jamaican flag on one of the bigger boats was flapping in the breeze just offshore. Now that we know a little bit about it we can just go take one when the rescue boat is available. I sailed for a short time then explained it to Emily as our go-to guy is a little hard to understand. Most of the Jamaicans are. It’s a heavy accent! They are all very friendly and remind us that we are on vacation so they will take care of everything.

We are hoping that our night snorkeling is still going to happen, with the rain it’s hard to judge at this time. We are going to go eat early at the grill place here that we went to last night as they are open from like 11am to 5am with a expanded menu at different times. I’m guessing that we are having burgers and fries.

They didn’t do the night snorkeling trip and have rescheduled it for Saturday. We did find out before dinner so we went to the main dining area/ restaurant. I’m surprised that they didn’t capitalize on the ocean view for their restaurants, we had a view of some trees and beyond that the pool. The grill/ Italian Bistro (at dinner it becomes a bistro) does have an area that overlooks the beach they use for dinner service.
Dinner wasn’t bad, I had little bit of beef, pork and chicken with the jerk seasoning the beef was the best and the chicken was better than last nights from the grill place. They have a good variety of other things but I wanted to try the different versions of jerk.

After dinner we walked along the beach for a bit as it was getting dark. When we got to the property line the security guard informed us to not go further in that direction he said the other way was okay even past our resort. It seems to be a lot of resorts both ways but they must not have security the way we were headed. He said that people may be on the beach and would harass us possibly.

We have a plan started for tomorrow, we’re going to go do some snorkeling in the morning and then watch the weather for when it may rain then do some exercise when it does in the gym. After that we my take the shuttle into town for shopping and people watching.

I will do some pictures of the resort soon and get them posted.
